Program Overview
Welcome to the RMGME Internal Medicine Residency Program at Southern California Hospital Culver City. As a three-year categorical medicine program, we aim to train competent, compassionate, and well-rounded physicians. Our graduates will be prepared to deliver outstanding, high quality, patient focused care as they take the next step in their medical careers.
Mission Statement
The Residents Medical Center for GME Excellence (RMGME) at Southern California Hospital Consortium’s Internal Medicine Residency program’s mission is to prepare the first AI-native residents, with an emphasis on becoming academic physicians. We will also prioritize recruiting residents who are willing to practice in the immediate community post-residency. This core mission will create new leaders in medicine while addressing the doctor shortage in such areas, one graduating class at a time.
The need for a program that enables doctors to stay and practice post-residency in the most vulnerable community populations is important. Our residents will become compassionate and confident internists equipped to meet the evolving healthcare needs of their community, with knowledge of how to safely and accurately use AI, while actively serving the underserved of Los Angeles County.
Through comprehensive, evidence-based training and a commitment to lifelong learning in academic medicine, we aim to recruit and train diverse resident physicians dedicated to clinical excellence, advancing health equity, and mastering the science of discovery, while fostering a supportive culture of wellness and professional growth. Our academic goals include embracing the highest level of educational excellence, with GME didactics enhanced by the most advanced, research-proven AI technology supporting our faculty, didactics, and research.
Program Aims
Provide comprehensive, high-quality clinical training across inpatient, outpatient, and community-based settings. Residents will complete a balanced curriculum that includes core inpatient rotations, longitudinal continuity clinic, subspecialty experiences, and community-based ambulatory rotations to develop broad competence in internal medicine.
Develop physicians skilled in patient-centered, team-based care with a focus on underserved and diverse populations. Residents will participate in interprofessional care models and community-focused clinical experiences serving the diverse patient population of Los Angeles to address health disparities and social determinants of health.
Foster excellence in patient safety, quality improvement, and systems-based practice. All residents will engage in longitudinal quality improvement projects, patient safety conferences, and transitions-of-care initiatives aligned with institutional priorities.
Promote strong medical knowledge, clinical reasoning, and lifelong learning. The program will provide a structured didactic curriculum including daily conferences, board review sessions, journal clubs, simulation, and the integration of innovative educational technologies to support knowledge acquisition and exam readiness.
Support professional development, wellness, and ethical practice. Residents will participate in mentorship programs, wellness initiatives, and professionalism training to support resilience, career planning, and ethical medical practice.
Encourage scholarly activity and academic engagement. Residents will have opportunities to participate in clinical research, case reports, quality improvement scholarship, and regional or national presentations with faculty mentorship.
How to Apply
Applications to the RMGME Internal Medicine Residency Program at Southern California Hospital Culver will only be accepted through the Electronic Residency Application Services (ERAS). Applications will be reviewed on a holistic, case-by-case basis. In alignment with the AAMC Mission-Aligned Selection and Retention model, academic performance metrics are used as a non-binding guideline rather than a strict cutoff. Applicants are evaluated through a balanced, individualized assessment of their experiences, attributes, and academic achievement to ensure alignment with our program’s mission and community goals. No candidate is excluded based on examination scores alone.

Resident salaries are as follows:
PGY1 $78,000
PGY2 $80,500
PGY3 $83,000

FAQs
Does the program accept applications outside of ERAS?
No, all applicants must apply through ERAS.
Does the program participate in the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP)?
Yes — we will participate in the NRMP going forward. However, our inaugural class will begin off-cycle in January 2027 and will be outside the Match.
Does the program require US clinical experience?
While US clinical experience is preferred, it is not required.
Do you accept J-1 visas? Do you sponsor H-1B visas?
We accept J-1 visas (matched interns are responsible for visa fees; we assist with ECFMG paperwork). We do not sponsor H-1B visas.
